LittleFootprint Lighting and LEED
LEED (Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design) is a voluntary green-building
certification system that has been developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. To achieve LEED
certification, a building must have been designed and built – and then continue to operate – at certain prescribed levels of performance in these areas:
- Sustainable Sites
- Water Efficiency
- Energy & Atmosphere
- Materials & Resources
- Indoor Environmental Quality
LEED rating systems exist for all phases of the construction life cycle: New Construction,
Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance, and Commercial Interiors,
as examples.
LittleFootprint Lighting and the Path to Sustainability
Our LED personal task lights may help you earn points toward achieving LEED certification.* These energy-efficient, recycled plastic LED desk lamps are relevant for several LEED categories:
- Energy & Atmosphere: Long-lasting, energy-saving LED task lighting reduces the amount of energy needed to light a building, and less energy used means fewer greenhouse gases in our environment.
- Materials & Resources: The base, stem, arm, and shade of our LED personal task lights are all made from recycled plastic, sourced in California; the base contains recycled steel. In contrast to compact fluorescent bulbs, our LED bulbs contain no mercury.
- Indoor Environmental Quality: Our individual LED task lighting may help meet the LEED requirement to enable building occupants to “lighten up” (and down) – adjusting lighting to suit individual task needs and preferences.*
*Each project that applies for LEED certification is reviewed individually, so the contribution our products make will depend on various factors specific to your project. Consult your LEED advisor.
