Our History: A Bright Idea…

In 2008, we were both happy to be working for a new company in the LED architectural lighting industry, helping to bring to market the “greenest” lighting available. Still, as environmentalists, we wondered why LED companies weren’t taking it a step further.

For example, why not use recycled materials when possible? Why not try to lower the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process for LED lighting?

As part of her job, Nancy took classes to prepare for the LEED Accredited Professional
exam. When she learned that LEED points can be earned not only for saving energy
but for using recycled content and for providing workers with their own individual
task lights, she hit on the bright idea of creating LED task lights made from
recycled materials.

Nancy tucked that idea away temporarily. Then, when the company we were working
for downsized in early 2009, we saw it as our opportunity to “make green lighting even
greener” – by starting our own company to focus on sustainably manufactured LED task
lighting products.

… and LittleFootprint Lighting was born.
